About

We provide affordable studios, build networks, and offer support, learning and facilities to inspire everyone to realise their creative potential. Plymouth must have a vibrant art and making culture that keeps creative jobs in the city, and we are here to help every maker in their journey. Making strengthens communities; it gives people confidence and a voice.

Have your voice heard through our unrivalled programme of events, masterclasses, tutorials, and exhibitions. RAMP is part of the Real Ideas Organisation, and you are welcome to participate in our activities, whatever your age and experience.

How to find us

You’ll find us in the world-famous Royal William Yard, a former navy victualling yard built where the River Tamar flows into Plymouth Sound.

Constructed between 1825 and 1831, the Royal William Yard is steeped in naval history and considered one of the most important groups of historic military buildings in Britain and the most extensive collection of Grade 1 Listed military buildings in Europe.

We’re in the Factory Cooperage, a group of buildings built to support the enormous demands on the supply of barrels for the store on board royal navy ships.

We’re in the Factory Cooperage, a group of buildings built to support the enormous demands on the supply of barrels for the store on board royal navy ships.

The lower floor was used to store sponges, rammers, and carriages (all used in naval artillery warfare), while the first floor was used for the armour, containing some 9,000 rifles, pistols, cutlasses, boarding pikes, machine guns and other quick-firing weapons.

But there’s nothing so deadly in the buildings now – just all the equipment you need to bring peace and creativity to your life.

We have Meeting Space and Co-work options available to book through our booking platform.

Our large Workspaces are mostly used for creative programming and experiences, curated by the RAMP team. Including workshops and open access to specialist facilities for creative practitioners. Hiring our large workspaces are upon request only.

We no longer run weddings at Ocean Studios, but if you’re looking for a creative hen party, we can help!
