Join The Great Sea Choir for their summer concert in a truly spectacular venue. Their set this season brings them home to the folk songs of the sea. From yearning folk lullabies to maritime drinking songs to naughty sailor songs!
The concert will take you on a journey through traditional folk melodies, songs of unity and contemporary folk songs all uniquely arranged for the choir. With inspiration taken from contemporary artists including Ye Vagabonds, Eliza Carthy, The Staves, Karine Polwart and many more.
The Great Sea Choir are a 45 strong mixed voice a cappella choir based in Plymouth directed by Julu Irvine and Heg Brignall of folk duo Suthering. The choir are known for their intricate and rhythmic arrangements and the high quality of their singing. Despite being a mixed-ability group of un-auditioned singers, the choir create an impressive and professional sound, brilliantly executing a wide range of folk music; from unique modern takes on traditional songs to textured, choral interpretations of contemporary music. Their sense of community, which is at the heart of what they do, shines through in their singing. This is a vibrant choir with a fresh take on folk arrangements, singing in up to eight-part harmony. Their songs are moving, exciting and delivered with passion.
